The Art et Découvertes association offers you an outing to discover Porquerolles and the Carmignac foundation.

We will take the boat at Tour Fondue for a crossing of approximately 15 minutes.

Porquerolles, an island located opposite Hyères, is a jewel of the Mediterranean. It has enjoyed the status of “National Park” since 2012.

Dominating the village, Fort Sainte Agathe with its stocky silhouette stands guard. Built under François I (1), the tower houses a large vaulted dome room. It is topped by a terrace which offers an exceptional view of the island and the Hyères harbor. Next to it, the pretty, fully restored 1531th century Moulin du Bonheur.

The village was created from 1820, the lighthouse in 1837 and the church in 1850. The Sainte Anne church, initially a military chapel, became a parish church. Inside you can see a Stations of the Cross engraved with a knife by a soldier.

We will take a walk to Argent beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, its crystal clear waters, its fine white sand, its beautiful pine forest make it the ideal beach for everyone. It is a 25-minute walk from the village. For those who don't want to walk too much, they can stop at the EMMANUEL LOPEZ Garden which brings together plants adapted to the Mediterranean climate.

We will return to the village for lunch with on the menu:
- zucchini fritters, mint sauce, salad;
- chicken and vegetable coconut curry, Thai sesame rice;
- Tropézienne tart, toasted almonds and caramel;
- wine and coffee.

In the afternoon, we will visit the VILLA CARMIGNAC Exhibition in two groups.

It is an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art, around a sculpture garden. The foundation is located in the COURTADE wine estate.

If the island was purchased at the beginning of the 80th century by FRANÇOIS-XAVIER FOURNIER who made his fortune in the gold mines of Mexico, the COURTADE estate and the extraordinary villa which dominates it, are the work of HENRI VIDAL, an architect, who made his fortune thanks to a patent, that of Reinforced Earth, used for airport runways around the world. In love with the island, he decided in the 30s to build this building and plant XNUMX hectares of vines.

ÉDOUARD CARMIGNAC, a wealthy financier, discovers the island during a wedding (Jean ROCHEFORT). He vows to return one day, already planning to install his works of art there. The project is taking shape in 2014. The ground will be dug up to 7 meters to enlarge the space, so nothing has been touched on the exterior. It is then under the villa that 2000 m2 are dedicated to the CARMIGNAC collection.

From these titanic works were born exhibition rooms built around the cross plan, a sort of imposing concrete cathedral, illuminated by a water ceiling. The big idea is to have transformed the existing swimming pool into a sort of glass roof covered with 20 cm of water.

The exhibition “THE INFINITE WOMAN” aims to highlight women. It combines major works from the collection (Sandro Botticelli, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein) with exceptional loans (Louise Bourgeois, Mary Beth Edelson) as well as productions created specifically for the exhibition.

Once we return to the surface, we will discover the gardens. The works to be discovered in these gardens thus play with the surrounding nature and our senses, each questioning our presence in the world in their own way. The exhibition visit takes place barefoot.
