The Art et Découvertes association offers you an outing to discover Carpentras and its Library-Museum, the Hôtel-Dieu “L'INGUIMBERTINE”.

Carpentras, capital of Comtat Venaissin, offers visitors the heritage of a rich past attested by 5 centuries of papal affiliation. Its architecture is inspired by Italian models and the presence of Jews, protected by the Popes, marks its culture.

We will start our visit with some sweet treats at LA CONFISERIE DU MONT VENTOUX to watch the artisanal production of berlingots. A tradition present in Carpentras since 1800.

Then, we will head to the SAINT SIFFREIN Cathedral. This Gothic-style cathedral was built on the orders of the Pope of Avignon Benedict XIII on the site of an ancient Romanesque cathedral.

It was consecrated in 1532 and holds a relic: the HOLY BITS which is said to have been made with a nail that attached the right hand of Christ. It was kept in Constantinople before disappearing and being found in Carpentras.

This SAINT MORS has been the main attribute of the city's coat of arms since 1260. This Cathedral has been listed as a historic monument since 1840, and since 2009 it has been the seat of the Bishop of Carpentras.

We will meet for lunch with the following on the menu:

- Goat cheese samosas
- Veal blanquette
- Brownie custard
- Wine, coffee

In the early afternoon, we will discover a hidden treasure of Vaucluse. We will have a guided tour to discover the INGUIMBERTINE the Library-Museum inaugurated in April 2024.

After 15 years of work, L'INGUIMBERTINE has been enriched with a large museum to discover the ancient collections with its manuscripts, its painters, its works of art.

What an incredible restoration of the old and immense "HÔTEL-DIEU" from the 1745th century. This new museum is a unique place in France. It was built in XNUMX by DON MALACHIE d'INGUIMBERT, Bishop of Carpentras. There is a monumental staircase with its period wrought iron balustrade, then a succession of rooms with thousands of old books, an astonishing variety of objects from Antiquity to the XNUMXth century, superb collections of paintings, sculptures.
