Exit to Aigues-Mortes

The Art et Découvertes association offers you an outing to discover Aigues-Mortes.

These two May outings will take us to AIGUES-MORTES, a French commune in the Petite Camargue region, located at the southern tip of the Gard department in the Occitanie region. It is renowned for its ramparts and its arenas used for Camargue races.

The Aigues-Mortes salt marshes exploit the PECCAIS marsh, a salt marsh at the base of the creation of the Salins du Midi.

At 10:30 a.m., we'll board the Péniche ISLES DE STEL for a cruise along the water. We'll stop at a bull herd to watch the herdsmen work on horseback. Throughout this ride, we'll discover the flora and fauna of the Camargue.

Our lunch will be served on board this barge with the following on the menu:
- Welcome kir
- Fish soup, rouille and croutons
- Bull stew and Camargue rice
- Cheeses
- Pastry shop
- ¼ of wine and coffee

Arrival in AIGUES-MORTES at 14:30 p.m.

A self-guided tour will allow us to discover this medieval city founded by Saint Louis in the 13th century, the starting point of the 7th and 8th Crusades. We will then be able to admire, in particular, the Constance Tower, a former watchtower that became a prison.

At 16:30 p.m. (Wednesday, May 21) and 16:23 p.m. (Friday, May 1), board the little train for a journey of over 1 hours to the heart of the gigantic salt mountains and magnificent pink waters.

This site is a true gem, offering a natural paradise for flora and fauna. It is home to over 200 species of birds, including the famous pink flamingos.

A short stop at the Salt Museum will allow us to deepen our knowledge of salt marshes, and after a tour around the salt tables, this little train will make a stop at the foot of the salt camel for an exceptional panoramic view.

We will then return to Bandol after this very varied day.
