The Var is a historic land of jazz, with many great artists from this region. Many come to live there again or settle there, like Christophe Dal Sasso and Nicolas Folmer. Var musicians and audiences wish to participate in a large creative jazz ensemble, bringing together established soloists and recognized composers. The music of Dal Sasso and Folmer is open to crossbreeding and creates instant magic, offering a range of emotions. For this new season, Le Big Sud by Dal Sasso and Folmer invites international artists.
Born in 1975, Géraldine Laurent began playing alto saxophone at the age of 13, at the Niort conservatory. She studied jazz with Robert Boillot and Floris Nico Bunik, obtaining a DEM and a Deug in musicology. Since 2017, she has played with her quartet “At Work” and collaborated with Rhoda Scott, René Urtreger and Agnès Desarthe. In 2019, she recorded “Cooking” with Paul Lay, Yoni Zelnik and Donald Kontomanou, winner of “Album of the Year” at the Victoires du Jazz 2020. In 2023, she was doubly rewarded at the Victoires du Jazz, as “Artist of the year” and for the “Concert” with his quartet “Cooking”.
