A few words about the Bandol designation
Bandol Wines, thanks to 25 centuries of wine-growing tradition acquired an international reputation dating from the Ancient world. At that time, Greek sailors founded trading posts along the Mediterranean coast, introducing the cultivation of wines to the region. Later, in the 1941th century, these wines that were even better thanks to sea trips, were highly appreciated at the court of the Kings of France. In XNUMX, Bandol vineyards were among the first ones to get the protected designation of origin wine (PDO wine) , revealing the exceptional quality of its productions thus.
Today, Bandol vineyardsgathers around fifty areaswhich extend over more than 1 hectares from the Sainte-Baume Massif to the Mediterranean coast, getting 600 3 hours of annual brightening. This privileged exposure, combined with calcareous and well-drained soils, offers ideal conditions to cultivate Mourvèdre, the emblematic grape variety of the designation. This demanding grape variety gives Bandol red wines a specific tannic structure and remarkable aging potential.
Thus, the wines of this designation are identified in three colors :
- Red : made mainly with Mourvèdre, it is distinguished by its deep color and its complex aromas of black fruits, spices and undergrowth.
- Rosé : made with a blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault, it has got a salmon color and fruity and spicy notes, ideal for Mediterranean cuisine.
- White : more elegant, more confidential, it offers delicate aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits.
