activities in bandol with a dog
1. Take a swimming break
What a pleasure to share a few swims in good company! If all the beaches of Bandol dogs are not allowed, there is one completely dedicated to them: Dog Beach. A pebble cove located below the Deferrari parking, with a direct view of the famous island of Bendor. The ideal place for a splash, to throw his favorite toy offshore or to admire the sunset over the sea...
It is also a great place for puppies who wish to learn swimming. On site, you will find crystal clear sea, few people and a beach to relax right after. As a bonus, a small esplanade is available so that they can run with friends or let off steam alone.
🐶 Good to know: don’t forget to rinse your dog with clean water after a swim in the sea to remove salt and sand from his coat.
2. Go paddle boarding or kayaking
After all, it's not just the curious with their mask or the children who have the right to take a seat at the front of a board! You might even be surprised by your four-legged friend's balance...
Our advice is to rent a paddle or kayak and walk along the coast following the coastal path. The launch is done right next to the Dog beach (at the bottom of the Deferrari car park). You will be able to enjoy the superb view while rowing, certainly for 2, but with your best friend. And that is priceless !
???? Good to know : several nautical providers offer equipment rental. This is the case, for example, of the Nautical Society andExtreme Surfing Club Bandol.
3. Enjoy the Bandolese terraces
Most businesses and restaurants happily accept doggies on a leash. Enough to enjoy your aperitif or your lunch on the terrace in complete peace of mind.
Feel free to ask employees for a bowl of water for your companion. Establishments always do their best to satisfy your friend. Some have even been treated to a champagne bucket… filled with water of course!
walks in bandol with a dog
The essentials for a dog walk in Bandol:
- A leash (obligatory on the trails).
- Water for you AND for your dog.
- Toutounet bags to keep the city clean (plan of displays accessible here).
- A prior check of access to the massif (possible closure in the event of heatwave, wind, fire risk).
The tours
The walking trails are also open to your pet. In Bandol, we have two hikes: the coastal path and the Bandol Classic. What they have in common: superb panoramas and shaded areas to take breaks. Please note, however, that for these two trails, you will be asked to keep your dog on a leash. To discover the route of these hikes, click on the one that interests you:
🐕 Good to know: with our doggie, our favorite remains the section of the coastal path from Barry beach to the submarine (Galère beach). A wild walk surrounded by nature, it is ideal early in the morning or at the end of the day to enjoy the sweetness of a summer evening for example…
Short walks
If you just want a place where your dog can stretch your legs, Bandol offers several more or less large parks.
For example, you can go to Canet Park, the largest in the city. Here you will have the opportunity to play ball on an open field, run your dog in a deep valley and even, if you are lucky, observe squirrels in the trees.
You can also head towards the seaside and the lawns of Centrale beach and the Haffner Square. Smaller surfaces, but still effective for simple outings. Finally, if you live on the side of Bois Maurin, the park of the same name will be your favorite place!
dog advice and tips in bandol
Find here all the information collected over the course of our life with our furry Bandolese companion, as well as the feedback collected at the tourist office reception. A summary of tips for your canine friend's stay!
- A dog fountain is available in front of the Tourist Office (3 Alfred Vivien aisles).
- Always have a little clear water with you: to rinse it after swimming, to remove sand that is a little too sticky, to simply hydrate it.
- We always ensure pick up the droppings of his dog in order to keep the city clean. The Toutounet de Bandol map is available here.
- In summer, we prefer walks and swimming early in the morning or at the end of the day to avoid heatstroke. This advice is valid for both you and your dog!
- During his swims, be careful of ingesting salt water which can cause diarrhea and dehydration.
- After a walk, we check our ears : plants called “spigaou” or “spikelets” can lodge indoors and can cause health problems.
- We avoid walking them on a ground that is too hot: their temperature is regulated by the legs.
- Always think first of all his well-being : you don't tan on the beach with your dog (too hot), you go home straight after swimming, you don't leave him in a car even if it's in the shade...
- If you have a swimming pool, consider monitor your baths. If you don't have stairs or a gently sloping beach, your dog may get tired trying to climb back up. There would then be a risk of drowning.
- By boat: provide a safety jacket for each passenger, including dogs!
