Like Central Beach in 2017, all beaches in the town are now “non-smoking”. A decision motivated by several reasons…

protect our health

Did you know ? each year, 75 deaths are linked to smoking, including 000 from cancer. This puts this addiction in the first position of so-called “avoidable” cancers. Thus, to protect the smoking and non-smoking population (passive smoking), measures had already been taken, including the banning of smoking in public places. It is in this perspective of prevention that today, Bandol goes further by passing all the beaches of the town "without tobacco".

to preserve the environment

In addition to our health, the environment is also concerned by this measure. Indeed, every year, many cigarette butts are found on the beaches. At best, they will take 15 years to degrade in nature, buried in the sand on which we will lay our towels. At worst, they will be carried away by the rain and the wind to end up poisoning the sea and marine species. As a reminder, a single cigarette butt can contaminate 500 liters of water.

It should also be noted that, on the occasion of the week of the environment, from June 5 to 10, 2023, the city is mobilizing! A rich and varied program will be offered to raise awareness, prevent and act in favor of the environment. For more information, check out the event page:

raise awareness and educate

This “tobacco-free” measure is part of a major campaign organized by the city. The goal : fight against incivility, even those that seem benign, but which still degrade our living environment. Thus, the municipality has chosen to highlight four recurring incivilities: illegal dumping, dog droppings, uncontrolled parking and throwing cigarette butts. As part of this operation and to fight against the invasion of cigarette butts, pocket ashtrays will be distributed on request at the town hall and at the Espace Paul Ricard.
