To protect the posidonia meadows and in fact the marine fauna and flora, the municipality has decided to set up ecological anchorages. Deciphering these aquatic novelties.
How ecological anchoring works
The installation of this new mode of anchoring took place within the framework of the beaconing plan for the Bandol coast. Thus, in order to protect the seabed from the destructive effect of anchors, an ecological fixation in accordance with nature has been set up.
The system is that of suspension of chains. The latter is composed of different anchors with, for each, a defined ground:
- screw anchors: for sandy and muddy bottoms;
- helical-type anchors: which respect the Posidonia meadows;
- anchors by sealing: ideal for rocky bottoms and dead bodies.
Result : approximately 3 m of moorings type anchors have been permanently installed on all the beaconing of the 500 m from the city. It should be noted that the surface buoy holding chains will be fitted with submerged buoys to prevent the scraping of the seabed during removal at the end of the season.
The importance of Posidonia
We will never stop remembering: Posidonia is vital! Indeed, it is essential to the marine fauna to which it provides lodging and cover; but also to our coasts which it protects from erosion. Also, its protection is of crucial importance for all coastal cities.
And yet, every year, too many boaters continue to anchor on the seagrass beds. The consequence: destroyed seabed and a disrupted ecosystem.
