For the past few days, the tourist office has been transformed into an exhibition hall with sculptures as original as they are sublime.
An atypical story
The inventor of these creations is Pierre Dupré, the director of Cape of Palms in Bandol. You've probably seen her magnificent rig in the bay. Well, in addition to being a seasoned sailor, Pierre has also been a farrier for 30 years. A priori, there is no link between these two professions, these two universes… this is where it becomes interesting.
When ecology meets art
During the first confinement, Pierre, to pass time, decide to tinker with scrap metal and sheet metal which he recovers, in particular in his function as farrier, to transform them. Because, it is important to emphasize one thing: as he likes to say "I am not an artist, I am a handyman". Out of the question to call his beauties, works of art; for him, it's simply "DIY".
But it is clear that beauty and originality of his "DIY". The materials that a priori were only waste, are recycled to create magnificent objects. A production 100% recuperation therefore.
Marine sculptures
His inspiration : daily life but also and above all the sea.
Thus whale, sea turtle, ray and other aquatic species come to life in the hands of this passionate man. His technique: he prepares the structure of his objects, cuts the pieces of sheet metal to the desired size and arc welds them together. And we can only be amazed at so many technique and imagination.
Each work is unique and has its own color, its own characteristics. Because what interests him is not the smooth and perfect sculpture, but the small imperfections that bring his creations to life.
